What Harry Potter taught me...

Updated: Sep 21, 2022

With the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets next month, I figured that now would be a good time to share this. Fun fact: I actually wrote this blog post about a year ago when Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone turned 20, but honestly, it is just as relevant to me now as it always has been. It may seem silly to some, but this series has meant more to me that I can ever really put into words.

I was in third grade when I picked up Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Yup.. American here) for the first time and forever cemented my love for reading. While I always liked to read, it was really after my first literary journey to Hogwarts that I truly fell in love with words. The Harry Potter series played a big part in making me who I am today. It was this series that not only grew my love of reading and fantasy, but also inspired me to write.

I was nine years old when I knew that one day, I wanted to be a writer. Harry Potter was a big part of my life growing up. I would eagerly await the next continuation of the story where I could return to the Wizarding World and follow Harry, Ron and Hermione on their next adventure.

I went to the midnight book releases and movie showings, and to be honest, I've lost track of how many times I've read the books and watched the movies.

There is just no other book series that has ever touched my heart and made me feel the way this series has.

The Harry Potter series made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me think and taught me valuable lessons.

- Hermione Granger taught me that it's OK to love reading and learning and to never be ashamed to show it. She also provided me with a strong female role model who was not only smart as hell but also a total badass. - Ron Weasley taught me the value of friendship. When you feel lost or forgotten amongst the chaos in life, your friends are always there to show you the light.

- Luna Lovegood taught me that it's ok to be different. Embrace it.

- Dobby taught me loyalty.

- Severus Snape taught me to never judge a book by its cover.

- Hagrid taught me to always rise above and show kindness, even to those who may not be so deserving of it.

- Neville Longbottom taught me to be brave and always stand up for the things that I believe in.

- Fred and George Weasley taught me that you can't take life so seriously all the time. Laughter can be the greatest medicine.

- Albus Dumbledore taught me the importance of love and using that love to power through the dark times in life. Hope is never lost.

- Draco Malfoy taught me that there is good lingering inside everyone, even if it remains hidden most of the time.

- Harry Potter taught me that you are a product of the choices you make. As easy as it may be to let pain and hate turn you dark, if you believe in the good, it will always get you through.

I will forever be grateful to this book series and all of the joy it brought me growing up. I hope that everybody has something as special to them as Harry Potter is to me. ❤️
